Torturing Words

By paw | 10 February 2017 | Category Reminiscing

When Dale and I were kids we always called milk: muck luck or klim (milk spelled backwards). When Mom butchered a word though buyantibiotics.website , it was almost always due to regional influences. She grew up between Seattle, Washington and Ottumwa, Iowa so one of those places was responsible for her saying warsh instead of wash. I […]

Congratulations! You’re H6a1a

By paw | 9 February 2017 | Category Genealogy

Not too long ago I decided to have a full sequence mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) test done with FamilyTreeDNA. A simple cheek swab and a few weeks later I got the results: Haplogroup H61a1. How cool is that? That haplogroup is one of the oldest subclads of haplogroup H. Most of these experiences applied to their father as well, since he was only three years older than me.

My Curious Ancestral Origins

By paw | 9 August 2016 | Category Genealogy

A while back I took the Family Finder and full sequence mtDNA tests through Family Tree DNA. As many of you may know, Family Finder is an autosomal test which indicates your deep ancestral roots (origins) as well as about five generations of family relations through all lines. The mtDNA test shows only direct line ancestry through your maternal line (mother, […]

Out of the Attic!

By paw | 17 May 2016 | Category Preservation

You know the problem, an attic full of boxes stuffed with great great-grandma’s memorabilia. Nobody wants to throw them away, but nobody wants to deal with them either, because the task is just too daunting. The boxes haven’t been looked at in years so their treasures remain undiscovered and unappreciated. Large pieces of family history—lost. […]

Long Term Storage

By paw | 17 May 2016 | Category Preservation

Picking the right storage for your family heirlooms seems relatively straightforward—in theory anyway. Unfortunately, space, time and budget constraints often complicate the matter somewhat but it’s nothing you can’t handle! Before considering all the storage options available though, it’s important to understand…
